When setting up the main water line in the crawlspace in the house, I went and added extra ball valves along the way. They are more or less on each branch off of the main and can isolate the plumbing fixtures as necessary. The ball valves will last the life of the plumbing, the different water fixtures through the house will not. With reasonable use, you can expect plumbing fixtures in the house to need repair or replacement between 5-10 years. I’ve had rentals where they have mangled in the fixtures in 1-2 years.
For example a shower valve can be isolated off for rebuilding and keep the rest of the house still functioning. One can maintain most water type house functions while obtaining more parts if needed. This type of method is valuable in places where proprietary parts are hard to find. If you need to wait a week for a part, you can make do with the other areas of plumbing still functioning. It keeps properly maintaining the fixtures less stressful, as it is less consequential if something goes awry.
